Netflix thinks these are the TVs you should be using to binge-watch your favorite shows

If you’re a devoted Netflix user who’s also shopping for a new TV, the streaming giant’s Recommended TV initiative helps you tick all the right boxes.

The program, which has been ongoing for a few years now, annually proclaims which TV sets, of all the TVs in the market, are best suited for streaming content optimally.

To qualify as a Recommended TV, manufacturers ensure their products meet 5 out of the 7 criteria required by Netflix, some of which might surprise you.

Essentially, a Recommended TV must have quick response time and easy accessibility to Netflix; that means immediate start up, lets users access Netflix from the main menu, open apps quickly, and come up with the latest version of the app.

However, for this year’s list, Netflix said it was also looking for TVs that keep its app fresh in the background even when the TV is asleep. Calling it “Always Fresh”, the feature keeps Netflix running 24/7, allowing it to stay updated with the latest and greatest from the streaming giant. Below is a GIF file of it in action.

I spoke briefly to Brady Gunderson, Director of Partner Product at Netflix, and he said the program was created to serve Netflix content in the best way possible through the advent of SMART TVs.

“A lot of thought has gone into this program and it’s all based on feedback from our users. We want to deliver the best Netflix experience by working with some of the best TV makers around,” Gunderson said.

Gunderson revealed that a one year lead time is often given to TV makers. This helps to ensure that they have enough time and resources to come with sets that meet the criteria.

“It’s more of a partnership. There’s constant communication. The requirements are passed on early so they [TV manufacturers] can prepare and do the necessary,” he added.

Without further ado, here’s the list of 2019's Netflix Recommended TV:

• Samsung Q60R/Q70R/Q80R/Q90R/Q900R series, RU8000, The Serif and The Frame devices

• Sony BRAVIA X85G/X90G series and A9G series

• Panasonic VIERA GX700/GX800/GX900 series

The list is short but Netflix pointed out that the list can grow throughout the year depending on device and software update availability.
